For over 70 years, the Ratuski family has been harvesting wild rice in Manitoba. As Shoal Lake Wild Rice, they use their expertise to produce premium wild rice products for North American kitchens.
Of the several varieties of rice, wild is one of the most nutritious, boasting twice the protein of regular rice, and more B vitamins, iron, calcium and phosphorus than brown rice. Technically, wild rice is not rice though – it’s an aquatic grass seed, classified as a “pseudograin”! Its full-bodied, nutty taste and chewy texture make it a great substitute for rice, grains, or even pasta as the base for a delicious, nutritious meal.
Shoal Lake Wild Rice operates several brands, including Floating Leaf, Oh Canada, and Canoe; additionally, they provide to private labels, bulk retailers, and food service. The brands encompass a range of wild rice based products, including rice blends, veggie pilaf, a quinoa blend, pastas, and even pancake, muffin & waffle mixes!
The company is directly involved in the harvesting, processing and packaging of their products, and their commitment to quality has been handed down through three generations. This expertise has helped build a world-class wild rice processing facility right here in Manitoba. They are also certified kosher, and many products are gluten-free and organic.
Shoal Lake Wild Rice products can be found at major grocery retailers across Canada, and their Floating Leaf brand is in many local health food stores. Click here for a list of products and where to find them.
