Best Cooking Pulses, Inc. (BCP) is a family owned and operated agrifoods business in Portage La Prairie. Stephen Heal and a business partner began selling peas in the 1930s, and the company has stayed in Heal’s family ever since!
The term “pulses” may not be familiar, but it’s just another word for legumes (crops such as beans, peas, and lentils). BCP mills and processes several types of pulses, and for more uses than their whole form; the Portage la Prairie facility creates ‘Best’ gluten-free pulse flours, pea fiber and bran products for food and pet food markets. They also have a second location in Saskatchewan that focuses on whole and split peas, lentils and chickpeas for sale throughout the world.
“Best” pulse products are gluten-free, kosher, halal, vegan/vegetarian, non-GM, and available natural (conventional) or certified organic!
BCP peas (split and whole), pulse flours and pea fiber are used by food companies to enhance the nutrition of gluten-free products, and to create a complete protein in cereal products. BCP is also the premier supplier of pea fiber, pea bran meal, pea flour and other pulse flours to the pet food industry, with particular value to the grain-free market.
