Over the last few years, urban gardening has made a comeback. This satisfying hobby isn’t just for those with green thumbs anymore, or limited to homes with sizeable yards. Thanks to container gardening, mini greenhouses, hearty succulents, and even those vertical garden DIYs on Pinterest, more people are able to reap the benefits of gardening.
Whether your interests lie in flowers, fruits and veggies, succulents, or attracting butterflies, the pros at some great local organizations have upcoming workshops to inspire and help you get started!
Assiniboine Park Conservancy (APC)
The APC offers a variety of workshops, including Creating Succulent Frames, Hanging Baskets, Stunning Containers for Sun, Veggie Hanging Baskets, and Creating Succulent Orbs. They start at $49.50+GST, and include materials.
Check out the APC website for details and registration information.
Shelmardine Garden Centre
In addition to vegetable gardening basics and herb gardening tips (and more) on their website, Shelmardine has free Container Gardening seminars, their “Little Diggers Kids Gardening Club,” and a free seminar on Butterfly Gardening!
Check out the Shelmardine calendar for more details.
St. Mary’s Nursery
For a fantastic early Mother’s Day, St. Mary’s has a Mom & Me workshop! For children 6 or older, you can paint a pot (and get to take it home), and plant a container. The nursery often offers Container Gardening, Landscape Design, and even Fairy Garden Container workshops, so make sure to visit their site regularly.
