The name Precision Produce may not be familiar, but the family behind it is no stranger to produce in Manitoba. Perhaps Vic’s Fruit Market or Schriemer Family Farms rings a bell? They’re actually all part of the same veggie-loving family!
Vic’s Fruit Market on Pembina Hwy was established in 1958 by Vic Schriemer. The store is full of Manitoba products; from meats and cheeses, to the freshest in-season produce, to locally-made pantry and freezer staples. Vic’s son Trevor bought the store twenty-four years ago, and when Trevor wanted to start a new venture, he kept the market in the family by selling it to his brother Scott!
In 1999, Trevor started Schriemer Family Farm in Otterburne, Manitoba with his wife and children. But don’t mistake “family farm” for being a small producer – the farm is now responsible for about 60% of the sweet corn, onions, squash, and pumpkins that Manitobans see in grocery stores in fall!
It was in 2011 that Trevor and Scott joined forces to start Precision Produce – the only state-of-the-art vegetable greenhouse operation in Manitoba, growing long English cucumbers, mini cucumbers, and tomatoes. The four-acre greenhouse is equipped with thousands of high-pressure sodium lights that create the warm glow from Otterburne, allowing for production 12 months of the year. Trevor and Scott believe in producing and selling fresh, local, sustainable, quality produce that Manitobans can trace from the seed to the table.
