Fantastic Foods – February

With so many delicious Manitoba products to choose from, it can be tough to pick a new one to try. So every month, we are featuring a few of our current favourites and how we like to enjoy them – bon appétit!

Gourmet Inspirations’ Creamy Peppercorn Whisky Sauce: If you’re over gravy, try drizzling this sauce on top of a steak for instagood cuisine. This creamy based sauce has a nice kick with the added flavours of peppercorn and whiskey. It’s so tasty, you’ll want to plan your dishes around this sauce – like, mixing it into mashed potatoes for added flavour and creaminess! Chef Peter Fehr’s inspiration for this sauce comes from the central regions of France, but it’s made lovingly here in Winnipeg.

Black Pearl Coffee’s Café Femenino – Peru Blend: A medium roast coffee, it’s the perfect blend to serve guests that will please light and bold preferences. Their Café Femenino coffees are grown, harvested and marketed by a Women’s Co-op, and are OCIA Organic/Fair Trade. Roasted in Winnipeg at their 460 Dufferin Ave, you can stop by and choose from a wide variety of freshly roasted coffee, or even create your own blend!

Adagio Acres’ Naked Oats: These are not your everyday quick oats – and that’s a very good thing. The farming family behind Adagio Acres believes in slowing down and enjoying food, especially with friends and family! That philosophy shows in these deliciously wholesome oats that are perfect for lazy Sunday morning oatmeal, or baking a batch of cookies. Not only do they taste amazing, but they’re raw, unprocessed, certified organic and wheat/barley/rye free, and grown in Manitoba’s Interlake region.

Organic Meadow’s Kéfir: Popular in parts of Europe for decades, this cultured dairy product is (finally) gaining popularity in North America. It gets its name from the grains used to ferment milk, but don’t let that throw you off – it has a taste and texture very similar to drinkable yogurt! There are four flavours to choose from; strawberry, blueberry, raspberry, or plain. The berry versions especially are great on their own, and the plain makes a super addition to smoothies.
